In Stitches

So, I stumbled across the best flickr photostream! davis.jacques has the cutest line drawings for embroidery I have ever seen. The throwback retro style is fantastic. I see some Christmas presents in the future, for sure. Check it out!

California Dreamin'

I am freshly back from the west coast. San Diego was the port of call for this year's convention. Wow...what a wonderful city. What do you think about Suzi selling seashells by the sea shore? Since I was working, I didn't have much time to tour the city. But, we went to two wonderful restaurants, explored the Gaslamp Quarter, ran along the water, ate some Pinkberry, and saw a lot of the convention center. Well, here are some pictures I took...

View from my hotel room of Petco Park where the Padres play.

Earthquake button in the elevator...scary!

Eating some Pinkberry.

The gateway to the Gaslamp Quarter that was right outside my hotel.

Our Garden

This weekend we replaced the old garden with two new raised bed gardens. My husband built the two frames on Saturday, and I put them together today. Can't wait to watch my veggies grow!

The old bed.

My husband being handy.

One of the completed frames.

Both beds. The open one has been sown with cucumber, pole bean, watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, butternut squash, zucchini, and yellow squash seeds. The covered one is waiting for seedlings of four different kinds of hot peppers, herbs, and two kinds of tomatoes.

I also thought I would share some other things that are going on around the house...

The lilacs are in bloom!

The crape myrtles are budding.

The azaleas are starting to bloom.

Happy Spring!

Introducing Lady Meow Meow

We adopted a one-year old kitty about a month ago. She is very shy, but very curious. Her favorite pastimes are standing outside a room looking in at the activity going on inside, meowing, purring, eating, running away from invisible objects, and greeting you at the door (from a distance). Slowly she is becoming more and more part of the family. We just love her!

Embroidery Mini Quilt Swap

I just signed up for the Embroidery Mini Quilt Swap through Quilting Gallery! The pattern below is what I will be working on in the coming weeks. I am excited to see who I will be making it for and what kind of preferences my fellow quilter has. Keep you posted...

Battle of the Carrot Cakes

This Easter we had Battle of the Carrot Cakes. My (favorite) sister-in-law and I both made carrot cakes for Easter dessert. While mine was good, I must say, her cake was way better. The frosting was great and the cake was more moist. (On a side note, I hate the word moist and only use it when referring to cakes.) I thought I would try a Carrot Bundt Cake With Cream Cheese Glaze found at

But nothing beats a traditional two-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! I think my sister-in-law said she got the recipe from Perfect Cakes by Nick Malgieri. She added her own twist by putting toasted coconut on the top and walnuts on the side. It was wonderful!

In addition to the carrot cakes, my mom and I decorated some sugar cookies in a Easter theme. Bunnies, and roosters, and geese, oh my!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

Updates on Previous Posts

I thought I would give some updates on previous posts...

First 5K
At the end of the post I said I was going to run another 5K. I did, and I did even better than the first! I broke 27 minutes...26:52, actually! It's time like those that running makes me feel really really seem to forget about all the times when you ask yourself over and over, "Why am I doing this?"

Ravelry Ad
While it brought a good amount of traffic to my site, I didn't get any sales from the ad. I only ran it for a month and missed the sign up for the next month....think I will try to do it again for two months straight. I also need to update my inventory...badly!

Dill Pickle and Dried Beef Rollup Appetizer
Have been a HUGE hit at all of my get-togethers! If you haven't tried them yet, you are missing out.

The Story of the Rosemary
Sadly, my rosemary plant is not doing very well. She is a little dry and limpy. I have placed her outside on the porch since the weather is getting nicer by the day (thank you for that!). I think a little fresh air and sunshine will do a girl good.

A Winter Wonderland!
I have originally posted about the first snow storm we got in December and totally ignored the second (larger) one we got in February. I just couldn't take it! Anyways, we survived Snowmageddon, Snowpocolypse, SnOMG, or whatever you want to call it, and made it out the other side with daffodils and tulips abound. I still love Mother Nature.

Army Ten-Miler

I just signed up for the Army Ten-Miler in October. Lots of time to train, which is good seeing as I am only up to 3 miles right now. I just started running outside the beginning of this year, with a New Year's resolution to run a 5K this year, but then I fell in love! And, in three months of running, I have also fallen out of love many times...but I keep coming back, I keep getting faster, and I keep going farther. I will keep you posted on my progress as I work my way up to 10 miles!
